The Simplest Solution

Simplicity arises from the absence of the unnecessary, by reducing something to its original purpose.

The purpose of a porcelain cup is to drink hot tea or coffee from it. But suddenly, the cup must match all the other cups in the cupboard and preferably be a different color to still appeal to me.

The cup has thus become something complicated, even though its purpose is very simple.

Rediscovering this simplicity requires our curiosity. What are the things in our lives actually for? What convictions stack up on top of them? And which of these convictions are we willing to burn in the fireplace?
